O tempo Futuro ou Future (in past), responde à pergunta: What was going to happen? (O quê iria acontecer?) ou What was going to be happening? (O quê iria estar acontecendo?). As expressões são estruturadas como forma Não Contínua ou como Contínua:
• Sujeito + was/were + going to + verbo em presente (I was going to work).
• Sujeito + was/were + going to + be + verbo em progressivo (I was going to be working).

Future Simple (in past) - Forma não contínua

I was going to work - Ia trabalhar

  • We were going to take the foreign visitors around town, but they never arrived.
    Íamos levar os visitantes estrangeiros para conhecer a cidade, mas eles jamais chegaram.

    A Sra. Jones estaria trabalhando no jardim, mas estava frio demais para ficar fora.
  • Alan was going to be repairing the front door when the tenants arrived.

  • The boys had lost their tent so they were going to be sleeping under the trees.
